YOUR WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY EXPERIENCE

Everything you'd want to know — before you have to ask.

Think of this as the conversation we'd have over coffee. How the day actually works, what to expect at each stage, and what I need from you — all in one place.

By the end of it, the photography part of your wedding should feel like the least complicated thing on your list.

FROM FIRST MESSAGE TO WEDDING DAY

Five steps. No surprises along the way.

The process is designed to be straightforward. Here's how it works from the moment you get in touch to the moment you walk down the aisle.

01

You get in touch

Tell me your date and venue. I'll confirm availability within 24 hours and answer any initial questions.

02

We have a proper call

Zoom or in person in MK. I want to hear about your day — what matters to you, how you've imagined it.

03

Booking confirmed

A contract and booking fee secures your date. Payment plans available. Final balance due a month before.

04

Planning together

Timeline review, group shot list, any questions. I'm available throughout — not just on the day.

05

Your wedding day

I turn up, do my thing, and you get to actually enjoy your wedding. That's the whole point.

BEFORE THE WEDDING

An engagement shoot isn't just a nice add-on. It changes how the wedding day feels.

Most couples arrive at their engagement shoot slightly nervous. Most leave saying something like: "that was actually fun." That matters, because the wedding day goes better when you've already had an hour figuring out what feels natural.

You'll know how I work. I'll know how you move, what makes you laugh, when to step in and when to leave you alone. That hour pays off the moment I walk through the door on your wedding morning.

Engagement shoots also produce images worth having in their own right — couples use them for wedding websites, invitations, or just because they're nice to have before the big day.

Ella is such a lovely and down to earth person! She has a kind and patient spirit that made me and my husband warm to her straightaway.

When browsing for local photographers, I stumbled upon Ella’s page and really loved the natural and romantic shots. We booked Ella for an engagement shoot and were so pleased with the photos, we went ahead with her as our wedding photographer. Of course, she didn’t disappoint. My husband and I have so many fond memories to look back on thanks to her. Ella, thank you so much for being fantastic!

HOW THE DAY ACTUALLY WORKS

A rough shape of how most wedding days run — and what I'm doing at each stage.

Every wedding is different. But the rhythm is usually similar. Here's what to expect.

MORNING

CEREMONY

DRINKS

GROUPS

PORTRAITS

RECEPTION

Getting ready (Deluxe & All In packages)

This is where the unguarded moments live — the nerves, the laughter, the bit where someone cries before anyone expects them to. I work quietly and don't get in the way. The goal is to document the morning as it genuinely is, not stage it.

The ceremony — documentary, uninterrupted

I don't direct the ceremony. I position myself to capture reactions, movement and moments as they happen. This is the most purely documentary part of the day — nothing staged, nothing interrupted. If you're considering an unplugged ceremony (guests' phones away), I'd gently encourage it: cleaner photographs, and guests who are actually present rather than watching through a screen.

Drinks reception — the best candid hour of the day

While guests mingle, I move through the room capturing conversations, laughter and the moments people don't realise are being photographed. This is relaxed, unstructured and usually produces some of the most natural images of the whole day.

Group photographs — efficient and actually enjoyable

Group shots have a reputation for being the dull part of the day. They don't have to be. I collect your list beforehand, work through it efficiently, and prioritise elderly relatives or anyone with mobility needs first. The goal is getting the important photographs without taking you away from your guests for longer than necessary — then getting you straight back to the party.

Couple portraits — relaxed, not rushed

Once groups are done, I'll take you away for 15–20 minutes — just the two of you, away from the crowd. I'll start with something simple, usually walking, and go from there. Most couples say this ended up being their favourite part of the day. If sunset timing works with your schedule, I'll always flag it: golden hour photographs are worth the ten-minute detour.

Speeches, first dance & everything after

Back to documentary mode. Speeches are some of the most photographic moments of the day — the speaker, yes, but more often the reactions around the room. The first dance, the evening, the moment the shoes come off — I stay present until coverage ends, watching for whatever happens next.

After dark (All In package)

Evening light and after-dark portraits produce some of the most striking images of the day. If your venue and timeline allow for it, I'll always make it happen.

THINGS COUPLES USUALLY WORRY ABOUT

Answered honestly.

We're a bit nervous about being photographed.

Completely normal — and it passes faster than you'd think. Wedding day nerves aren't really about the camera, they're just nerves. Once the day gets going you stop thinking about it entirely. My job is to make sure that happens quickly — starting with something as simple as asking you to walk together, which sounds almost too easy but genuinely works.

Do we have enough time for photographs?

That depends on your timeline, and reviewing timelines is part of what I do before the day. If something looks tight — portrait time squeezed before golden hour, group shots overlapping with the meal — I'll flag it early and suggest alternatives. The goal is protecting your photography time without disrupting the flow of your day.

What if the day runs late?

Weddings almost never run exactly to schedule. Experience means knowing which delays matter and which don't — and adapting the plan accordingly. I'll always be honest if a delay is going to affect the photography and suggest ways to adjust. The focus is always on protecting the moments that matter most.

What if it rains?

We work with it. I always identify covered locations and indoor alternatives when I review your venue. Some of the best wedding photographs happen in bad weather — moody light, couples who've stopped caring and are just enjoying it. Rain is not a disaster. It's a change of plan.

Can we give you a shot list?

For group photographs, yes — and I'll ask for one. For the rest of the day, a small number of specific images you'd love is absolutely fine. Extensive shot lists covering every moment of the day are generally better avoided — they shift the day from documentary toward directed, and often result in missing the real moments while recreating ones that felt forced.

Do we need to decide everything in advance?

Nope. When booking all I need to know is date, location & package, specifics of the day can wait until nearer the wedding! I'll guide you through what's actually needed — group shot list, rough timeline, any specific requests. The rest is my job. You don't need to arrive with a full photography brief. You just need to show up and enjoy your wedding.

I am so glad we chose Ella as our wedding photographer
We chose the package that included an engagement shoot. For both the engagement shoot and the wedding we got the photos back so quickly.
Ella was really friendly and lovely and encourage our guests to get lots of photos and we are really happy with how they turned out.

AFTER THE WEDDING

What happens between the wedding and your gallery.

The post-wedding wait is the part nobody talks about enough. Here's exactly what to expect.

48hrs

SNEAK PEEK

A small selection of edited images — enough to share, enough to relive the day while the full edit is in progress.

~6 weeks

FULL GALLERY DELIVERED

Usually sooner. Every image fully edited and delivered via private gallery link. Download at full resolution, keep forever, print anywhere.

No limits

IMAGE COUNT

No arbitrary caps. Every strong image is included. Near-identical images are removed — a gallery worth looking through, not just a large one.

PLANNING SUPPORT

I'm not a wedding planner. But I can help with more than just the photographs.

Seven years of wedding photography means a working knowledge of how wedding days function — what timelines work, where things tend to go wrong, and what genuinely doesn't matter as much as people think it does.

If you want a second opinion on a timeline, a supplier recommendation, or just a sense check on how something is likely to work on the day, I'm happy to help. That's not a sales pitch — it's just useful to have someone in your corner who's seen a lot of weddings.

Timeline review

I'll look over your running order and flag anything that looks tight — particularly around portrait time, group shots and golden hour.

Supplier recommendations

Happy to suggest suppliers I've worked well with — florists, videographers, planners — where it's helpful.

Honest advice

If something is likely to affect your photography or your day, I'll say so early rather than quietly hoping for the best.

Any questions — just ask.

If there's something this page didn't answer, or you just want to get a sense of whether we're a good fit — get in touch. No pressure. Just a conversation.
